Chicken Noodle Soup for the Wedding Pro

Updated: Nov 19, 2019

When you talk to someone who works in the wedding industry, odds are they'll talk about a styled shoot they've done, are going to do, or would like to do. While it may seem silly to spend valuable time on what is essentially a fake wedding, putting on styled shoots are good for the creative itch deep down in our souls - sort of like a good bowl of chicken noodle soup.

First, let me start by explaining what a styled shoot is in case you don't know all the ins and outs. A styled shoot is a joint effort of wedding vendors putting together their time and talents to create a wedding design (without the official wedding part). It usually starts with one vendor who begins to contact others with a particular style they want to achieve, and from there everyone contributes their part to create a masterpiece.

The first benefit that comes from these shoots is the ability to use their creative side. While each wedding unique and beautiful, vendors are hired to create the vision of the bride and groom. When working on a styled shoot, the vendors involved have a chance to create a design that isn't normally done in their area or they may not have done before. It helps prevent burn out from feeling like all of their designs are the same.

Second, is the community that is created from each shoot. When putting together a styled shoot, everyone involved often have the chance to work with 10+ vendors. This comes as a benefit to both the vendors involved, and you, their clients! Because they are networking and learning how each of the other vendors work, they can then help you determine who would be the best fit for you! It also allows vendors to find friendships in like minded creatives.

A third benefit is the opportunity to try new techniques and practice different ways to do things than one would on a wedding day. Styled shoots are a fantastic opportunity for growth. This also stems back into the last two benefits. With new designs to shoot and other vendors to learn from, it creates a perfect learning experience for everyone involved.

Lastly, is the biggest benefit for you! Styled shoots allow you to see exactly what a vendor is capable of. Without restrictions that come with a traditional event, you can see their creativity flourish. It can also help give you inspiration on everything from color palettes to room set up. Seeing how vendors can bring a design alive from inspiration photos to real life is incredible, and can show you the level of talent you're working with.

Have you seen your vendors participating in any styled shoots lately? If so, ask them to tell you more. Chances are they've poured their heart and soul into it, and they'd be happy to share a bit their chicken noodle soup with you.
